【Exploring Ainu Music】

(Middle School) Middle school students are currently learning about music and art that developed in different times and locations which has influenced our lives today. Words are one of the strong aspects which makes us to connect with the music we listen to. Students traveled to Tsurumi University to take a class on what and how oral language in the cultures of Ainu and Andes have passed on their stories over decades without a written language. Questions from students: “How many language exists in Ainu culture?” “How did Ainu culture grow and was there any influence from another culture?” “What made it possible for Ainu language to exist?” “Sometimes stories passed on orally has changed under the influence of people passing the story down. Was there such influence in the Ainu culture?”
