This year, as we are all at home during Earth day, we won't be doing anything together as a group. Instead, we can each make some individual efforts at home to help our planet!
Below are some ideas for optional activities but I encourage you to try and do at least a few of them. Once you have done them, please share what you did in the comments below.
Have a great day! 🙂
Ideas for taking part in Earth Day at home:
☐ Walk around your apartment or house and check if all the lights that don't need to be on are turned off. Turning off lights you don't need saves electricity.
☐Turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth. This saves water.
☐ Go outside and enjoy some time in nature today and reflect in your head (or tell a parent or
sibling) why nature is an important and special part of our world.
☐ Spread awareness. Find out some facts about the environment (in a book or online) and share them with your parents, siblings or grandparents (via Skype or email).
☐ Use the Ecosia web search engine. Go to: ecosia.org. When you use it, Ecosia donates money for trees to be planted.
☐ Have a "plastic free" snack today. I challenge you to eat something that didn't come out of a plastic bag.
☐ Make your own non toxic spray for wiping your kitchen table or bathroom sink (and help with the family chores!). Ask your parents to help you fill a spray bottle with one cup vinegar and one
cup water. This makes a cleaning solution that is safe for kids to use, kills germs, and doesn't put chemicals into our water pipes.
You can find the information here, along with other ideas you can share with your parents. https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Vinegar-Cleaning-Solution
☐Check if your family uses cloth bags for shopping. If not, see if there are any cloth bags around the house and put them by the door for the adults to take on their next shopping trip. If you want to try sewing, you could even sew a simple bag for them to put fruit or vegetables in instead of plastic ones.
Make sure you ask your parents if they have a needle, thread and scissors and if they can supervise you.
